O God is great! / He saw our State,
Surveyed our land, / Saw how people did stand.
Dissatisfied / With Yin-Shang’s side,
Then He would fain / Find out again.
Another State / To rule its fate
His eyes turned west; / Our State was blessed.
Tai cut the head / Off the trunk dead
And hewed with blows / The bushy rows.
The rotten trees / And mulberries
Were cleared away / Or put in array.
God made the road / For men's abode.
King Tai was made / Heaven's sure aide.
God visited Mount Qi / And thinned oak tree on tree.
Cypress and pines stood straight; / God founded the Zhou State.
He chose Tai as its head, / And Ji when Tai was dead.
Ji loved his brothers dear; / His heart was full of cheer.
When Ji was head of State, / He made its glory great.
The House of Zhou was blest / North to south, east to west.
God gave King Ji / The power to see
Clearly right from wrong / That he might rule for long.
