A soldier’s wife, I feel dread; / Where is my husband dear? I gather fruit from medlar tree / Upon the northern hill. From the king’s affairs he’s not / Our parents rue their fill. See shabby car appear / With horses weary and dread. My soldier must be near. / Nor man nor car appear; My heart feels sad and dread. / Alas! you’re overdue.
