山致其高，雲雨起焉；水致其深，蛟龍生焉；君子致其道德，而福祿歸焉。
夫有陰德者必有陽報，有隱行者必有昭名。
When mountains attain a certain height, clouds and rain will form around them; when bodies of water reach a certain depth, serpents and dragons will arise in them; and, when a man of quality develops his moral cultivation to the utmost, blessings and wealth will adhere to him.
古者，溝防不修，水為人害，禹鑿龍門，闢伊闕，平治水土，使民得陸處。
One who cultivates inward virtue, let us note, will necessarily enjoy a recompense visible to all.
百姓不親，五品不遜，契教以君臣之義，父子之親，夫婦之辨，長幼之序。
田野不修，民食不足。
Those who act well in private life will necessarily enjoy public glory.
后稷教之闢地墾草，糞土樹榖，令百姓家給人足。
In former times, channels and dikes were ill maintained, and the rivers wrought injury upon the people.
故三后之後，無不王者，有陰德也。
周室衰，禮義廢，孔子以三代之道，教導於世，繼嗣至今不絕者，有隱行也。
Yu cut a channel through Longmen Mountain, split apart the Yique peaks, leveled the land, and controlled the rivers, enabling the people to have dry land to dwell on. When the people failed to maintain close ties to their relations and failed to show the deference inherent in the Five Relationships, Xie taught them the bond of obligation between officers and lords, the bond of kinship between father and son, the distinction between the roles of husband and wife, and the orderly ranking of elders and juniors.
