」莊辛對曰:「居不為垣牆,人莫能毀傷;行不從周衛,人莫能暴害。
“When a man of quality is well-off and loans money to others,” replied Zhuang Xin, “he does not blame others if they do not feel gratitude for his magnanimity; and, when he gives food and drink to others, he does not order them about or impose tasks on them.
此君子之行也。
」楚王復問:「君子之富,奈何?
His relations love him, people at large admire him, and the unworthy serve him.
」對曰:「君子之富,假貸人,不德也,不責也;其食飲人,不使也,不役也。
All hope that he will enjoy long life and happiness, and suffer no misfortunes.
親戚愛之,眾人善之,不肖者事之,皆欲其壽樂而不傷於患,此君子之富也。
」楚王曰:「善。」
This is how a man of quality behaves when he is well-off.” “Finely observed!” said the king of Chu.
