“They are beautiful all right,” replied Shi Zhuo, “but I am also somewhat fearful.” “What do you fear?” asked Zhi Xiangzi.
」對曰：「臣以秉筆事君。
“I serve my ruler by wielding a brush,” replied Shi Zhuo.
記有之曰：『高山浚源，不生草木，松柏之地，其土不肥。
“There is a recorded saying that goes, ‘The tall mountain towers over the plain but bears no grass or trees; where pine and cypress grow, the soil is not fertile.’ But now both earth and wood are splendid; I fear they will not provide a secure haven.” Three years after the completion of the residence, the clan of Zhi was destroyed.78 77 Shi Zhuo 士茁 was a domestic officer of Zhi Xiangzi.
』今土木勝人，臣懼其不安人也。
Nothing more is known of him.
」室成三年，而智氏亡。
