When Mengchang Jun14 was about to enter Qin, his retainers admonished him more than a hundred times about it, but he took no heed of their advice, saying, “As far as advice concerning human affairs is concerned, I know all there is to know in that realm, but, if someone wishes to advise me concerning the way of ghosts, I shall give him a hearing.” His usher entered and said, “There is a visitor who wishes to have you hear of the way of ghosts.” “Invite him to enter,” said Mengchang Jun. The visitor said, “On my way here I passed by the River Zi, where I saw a statue made of mud conversing with a statue made of wood.

」謁者入曰：「有客以鬼道聞。
