Yang Hu wants Qi’s forces to be defeated.
陽虎欲齊師破。
If Qi’s forces are defeated, many great officers will die, and he will have free rein to develop his schemes.
齊師破，大臣必多死，於是欲奮其詐謀。
Yang Hu, please note, enjoyed the Ji clan’s favor, but now he is about to kill their chief, and he intends to do ill to the state of Lu in order to strengthen his own position there.
夫虎有寵於季氏，而將殺季孫，以不利魯國，而容其求焉。
Your Lordship is currently wealthier than the clan of Ji, and your state is larger than the state of Lu; that is why Yang Hu wishes to overthrow us.
今君富於季氏，而大於魯國，茲陽虎所欲傾覆也，魯免其疾，而君又收之，毋乃害乎？
Lu has escaped his depredations, but you want to give him shelter.
」齊君乃執之，免而奔晉。
Won’t this lead to harm?” The ruler of Jin thereupon seized Yang Hu but later pardoned him, after which he fled to Jin.
