Bao Bo Ling Zhi36 then said, “If the realm is to be possessed by administrators, then yielding the throne to the worthy is correct; if the realm is to possessed by a family, then hereditary succession is correct.

鮑白令之對曰：「天下官，則禪賢是也；天下家，則世繼是也。

故五帝以天下為官，三王以天下為家。」

Thus, it can be seen that the Five Lords regarded the realm as a thing possessed by administrators, whereas the kings of the Three Dynasties regarded the realm as a thing possessed by a family.
