A river is like a winding snake and thus is able to go far; a mountain relies on gradual slopes and thus is able to be high.

德義在前，用兵在後。
初沐者必拭冠，新浴者必振衣。
When one person is dead and the other lives on, one can see what a friendship is made of; when one person is poor and the other wealthy, the nature of the bond can then be known; when one person enjoys high position and the other’s lot is base, a friendship’s strength becomes apparent; when one person is afloat while the other sinks, the friendship then grows visible.
