民苦則不仁,勞則詐生,安平則教,危則謀,極則反,滿則損。
When people are miserable, they lose their capacity for empathy; when they are immersed in toil, fraudulent behavior arises.
In conditions of peace, they are amenable to instruction, but, in perilous conditions, they hatch schemes.
故君子弗滿弗極也。
When things reach an extreme, they reverse themselves; when things reach fullness, they recede.
This being the case, a man of quality avoids fullness and avoids extremes.
