衛國之法，竊駕君車罪刖。
According to the laws of Wei, the punishment for surreptitiously borrowing and driving the king’s carriage was to have one’s feet amputated.
彌子瑕之母疾，人聞，夜往告之，彌子瑕擅駕君車而出。
Mizi Xia’s mother fell ill, and a person who had learned of this came at night to inform him.
君聞之，賢之，曰：「孝哉！
Mizi Xia took the king’s carriage without permission and drove it off.
為母之故，犯刖罪哉！」
When the king heard of this, he felt that Mizi Xia had acted very worthily and exclaimed, “How filial he is!
For his mother’s sake he committed a crime punishable by amputation of the feet!
