能出物焉,能潤澤物焉,能生雲雨,為恩多。
It is because they are able to supply things for use, to nourish and sustain all things, and to produce clouds and rain. Because their favors are many and of a hundred different varieties, they are compared to viscounts and barons.
然品類以百數,故視子男也。
As is said in the Documents, “When sacrifices are made to the Six Great Ancestors, they are done in conformity with the different grades of hills and streams, and reach to all the spirits.”38 37 The Jiang, the He, the Huai, and the Ji 江、河、淮、濟: The Jiang is the Yangzi River and the He, the Yellow River.
書曰:「禋於六宗,望秩於山川,遍於群神矣。」
The Huai and Ji Rivers were located, respectively, in what are now Jiangsu and Shandong.
