一时、佛住王舍城、耆阇崛山中,与大比丘众万二千人俱。
AT ONE TIME the Buddha was staying at Rajagriha on Holy Eagle Peak with a large group of great monks, twelve thousand in all.

At one time the Buddha was in Rajagriha, staying on Mount Gridhrakuta.
其名曰:阿若憍陈如、摩诃迦叶、优楼频螺迦叶、伽耶迦叶、那提迦叶、舍利弗、大目犍连、摩诃迦旃延、阿冕楼驮、劫宾那、憍梵波提、离婆多、毕陵伽婆蹉、薄拘罗、摩诃拘絺罗、难陀、孙陀罗难陀、富楼那弥多罗尼子、须菩提、阿难、罗侯罗,如是众所知识、大阿罗汉等。
Their names were Ajnatakaundinya, Mahakasyapa, Uruvilvakasyapa, Gayakasyapa, Nadikasyapa, Sariputra, Great Maudgalyayana, Mahakatyayana, Aniruddha, Kapphina, Gavampati, Revata, Pilingavatsa (Pilindavatsa), Bakkula, Mahakausthila, Nanda, SundarAnanda, Purno Maitrayaniputrah, Subhuti, Ananda, and Rahula—such great arhants as these, known to the multitude.
皆是阿罗汉,诸漏已尽,无复烦恼,逮得己利,尽诸有结,心得自在。
All were arhats whose outflows had come to an end, who had no more earthly desires, who had attained what was to their advantage and had put an end to the bonds of existence, and whose minds had achieved a state of freedom.

There was Mahaprajapati, the bhiksuni [mendicant nun], together with six thousand followers.
如是众所知识、大阿罗汉等。
All were like these, great arhats who were well known to others.

Their names were Manjusri bodhisattva, the bodhisattva He Who Observes the Sounds of the World (Avalokitesvara), the bodhisattva Gainer of Great Strength (Mahasthamaprapta), the bodhisattva Constantly Exerting Himself (Nityodyukta), the bodhisattva He Who Does Not Rest (Aniksiptadhura), the bodhisattva of the Jeweled Palm (Ratnapani), the bodhisattva Medicine King (Bhaisajyaraja), the bodhisattva Brave Donor (Pradanasura), the bodhisattva of the Jeweled Moon (Ratnacandra), the bodhisattva of Moonglow (Ratnaprabha), the bodhisattva of the Full Moon (Purnacandra), the bodhisattva of Great Strength (Mahavikramin), the bodhisattva of Immeasurable Strength (Anantavikramin), the bodhisattva He Who Transcends the Three Worlds (Trailokyavikramin), the bodhisattva Bhadrapala, the bodhisattva Maitreya, the bodhisattva of the Heap of Jewels (Ratnakara), the bodhisattva He Who Leads the Multitude (Susarthavaha).
罗侯罗母耶输陀罗比丘尼,亦与眷属俱。
And there was Rahula's mother, the nun Yashodhara, with her followers.
以慈修身,善入佛慧。
Having trained themselves in compassion, they could enter into Buddha-wisdom, deeply understand great wisdom, and reach the other shore.
