The morning sun shines o'er the woods in the north. You now reside ten thousand miles away,
With countless lakes and rivers on the way. Because it’s much too far for me to reach there,
Thought of separation is hard to bear. A solitary swan southward flies,
O’er the courtyard uttering grievous sighs. When I look upward and sink in rue,
I’d like the bird to bring a word to you. When the swan flies till it’s out of sight,
I’m filled with sorrow for its speedy flight.
