Always dressed in the conventional way.
尊卑设次序，
They use the ranking orders as their tools
事物齐纪纲。
And act in accordance with order every day.
容饰整颜色，
They follow ways of manners learned in schools
磬折执圭璋。
And bow and scrape and always seem to obey.
堂上置玄酒，
In the sitting hall they place ritual wine;
室中盛稻粱。
In the dining room they eat all day long.
外厉贞素谈，
In public, they mouth words both sweet and fine;
户内灭芬芳。
At home, they do deeds both vile and wrong.
放口从表出，
Now they talk news heard from the grapevine;
复说道义方。
Then they preach and lecture hard and strong.
