I come to plots of unreclaimed wild land.
While there are no dwellings but the cave,
Flute music in the hills is deep and grave.
On the northern slope is heaped white snow;
On the southern slope red flowers grow.
The fountain water rinses pebbles day and night;
Small fish swim up and down, right and left.
Instead of stringed and woodwind strains elsewhere,
The hills and rills resound without compare.
Instead of songs and music high and low,
The mountain forests play the tunes of woe.
Chrysanthemums will serve as tasteful food;
Marsh orchids will be nosegay in the wood.
Since I’m tired of worldly tear and wear,
I’d better leave this vile vanity fair.
