And stop upon Mount Danshui for the night.

I stretch a mighty bow with my left hand

And wave a pointed sword with my right hand.

When I look backward at the palace wall,

Imperial buildings seem to rise and fall.

I sit straight on my horse and heave a sigh,

Tears flooding down without my knowing why.

I tie my horse on a pine beside the creek

And unsaddle it upon the mountain peak.

So fierce, so fierce the autumn wind does blow;

So swift, so swift the mountain creek does flow.

I wave my good-bye from the towering peak;

I moan and sob, hardly able to speak.

The floating clouds seem to gather for me;

The thronging birds seem to linger for me.
