The sages left their homes and went ashore.
黄绮之商山,
When hermits Huang and Qi went to Mount Shang,
伊人亦云逝。
First settlers in the Springs came in a gang.
往迹浸复湮,
The early footprints are covered now with weeds;
来径遂芜废。
The trodden bypaths are buried now by reeds.
相命肆农耕,
In the fields, each person does his very best;
日入从所憩。
At sunset they go home and take a rest.
桑竹垂余荫,
Bamboos and mulberries grow in such mild clime
菽稷随时艺。
While beans and crops are planted in their time.
春蚕收长丝,
They raise silkworms and plough the fields in spring;
秋熟靡王税。
When they reap crops, they need not pay the king.
荒路暧交通,
On bushy roads, no men are seen to go,
鸡犬互鸣吠。
But dogs are heard to bark and cocks to crow.
俎豆犹古法,
They make sacrifices in ancient ways
衣裳无新制。
And wear the clothes they made in ancient days.
童孺纵行歌,
The children sing their songs with ringing voice;
斑白欢游诣。
The grey-hair have pastime at their own choice.
草荣识节和,
When grass grows lush, they know that spring's alive;
木衰知风厉。
When trees wither, they see autumn arrive.
虽无纪历志,
Although they do not have an almamac,
四时自成岁。
The change of seasons helps them mark the track.
怡然有余乐,
Their lives so full of joy and bodies fit,
于何劳智慧。
They have no need to live by their wit.
奇踪隐五百,
This wonder, hidden for five hundred years,
