While emergency fire calls for royal orders.
徒结千载恨，
When royal troops are stationed in Guangwu,
空负百年怨。
They go north to the front without ado.
弃席思君幄，
In chilly autumn, with bows made of hard stuff,
疲马恋君轩。
Enemy troops are very tough and rough.
愿垂晋主惠，
With sword in hand, the king is in a rage
不愧田子魂。
And sends forth men to watch the battle stage.
羽檄起边亭，
The troops pass zigzag stone-paths in a file
烽火入咸阳。
And cross the vaulting bridges in a while.
征师屯广武，
The martial music shows their deep home thoughts;
分兵救朔方。
Frost wets their flags and shields in north forts.
严秋筋竿劲，
When gusts of wind in border areas roar,
虏阵精且强。
The sands and granules seem to float and soar.
天子按剑怒，
Even horses feel the cold at dawn
使者遥相望。
And horny bows can hardly be e'er drawn.
