Aunt Xue herself, when she witnessed Bao-yu's pitiful condition, began to regret having ever given her consent, and could only bring herself to play a perfunctory part in the proceedings.
回家，宝玉越加沉重。
When they returned home, Bao-yu's condition seemed to grow worse.
次日连起坐都不能了，日重一日，甚至汤水不进。
The next morning he could not sit up, and he wasted away day by day until he could not even take liquid nourishment.
薛姨妈等忙了手脚，各处遍请名医，皆不识病源。
In panic Aunt Xue and the others searched everywhere for good doctors, but not one was able to diagnose his illness
只有城外破寺中住着个穷医姓毕别号知庵的，诊得病源是悲喜激射，冷暖失调，饮食失时，忧忿滞中，正气壅闭，此内伤外感之症。
until a certain Bi Zhan, a poor physician who lived in a ruined temple outside town, ascribed it to both internal and external factors: sudden transports of joy and grief depriving him of his senses and appetite and pent-up indignation resulting in congestion.
于是度量用药，至晚服了，二更后，果然省些人事，便要喝水，贾母、王夫人等才放了心，请了薛姨妈带了宝钗，都到贾母那里，暂且歇息。
