如此者,《春秋》不予能君,而夷、狄之。
鄭伯惡一人而兼棄其師,故有「夷、狄不君」之辭。
When, on becoming a ruler, one pursues personal desires without regard to others, this is to fail to accept the intention of Heaven and to forget the actions that are appropriate to the position one occupies.
人主不以此自省惟,既以失實,心奚因知之。
故曰:「有國者不可以不學《春秋》。
」此之謂也。
The Spring and Autumn Annals does not call such rulers capable but regards them rather as akin to the Yi and Di barbarians.
