文侯命主書曰：「群臣賓客所獻書，操以進。
When he returned after having taken Zhongshan and made his report to Marquis Wen, he looked as if he was pleased with his accomplishment.
」主書者舉兩篋以進，令將軍視之，盡難攻中山之事也。
Marquis Wen issued an order to the senior archivist: “Take up all the proposals submitted to the throne by guests and officers and bring them in.” The senior archivists carried in two trunks of documents and had the commander look at them.
將軍還走，北面而再拜曰：「中山之舉也，非臣之力，君之功也。
The documents all warned of the difficulties that would be encountered should Zhongshan be attacked.
The commander retraced his steps, faced north, made two low bows, and said, “The Zhongshan campaign was achieved through no merit of mine but through the merit of Your Lordship.
