」晏子舉戈而臨之曰:「汝為吾君養馬而殺之,而罪當死;汝使吾君以馬之故殺圉人,而罪又當死;汝使吾君以馬故殺人,聞於四鄰諸侯,汝罪又當死。
I beg permission to denounce him to his face on Your Lordship’s behalf so that, when he is killed, he will have this knowledge.” “As you wish,” said Lord Jing.
」公曰:「夫子釋之!
Yanzi picked up a dagger-pike and approached the man, saying, “You raised a horse for our ruler and then killed it; that merits death.
夫子釋之!
You are causing our ruler to kill a groom for the sake of a horse; that crime also merits death.
勿傷吾仁也。」
You will cause it to be known among the neighboring states that our lord killed a man for the sake of a horse; that crime also merits death.” “Release him sir, release him sir,” Lord Jing exclaimed.
“Do not do injury to my reputation for empathy.
