」故武王諤諤而昌,紂嘿嘿而亡。
When a ruler does not have forthright officers, a father does not have forthright sons, an elder brother does not have forthright younger brothers, a husband does not have a forthright wife, and a man-of-service does not have forthright friends, then their destruction is only a matter of time.
君無諤諤之臣,父無諤諤之子,兄無諤諤之弟,夫無諤諤之婦,士無諤諤之友,其亡可立而待。
Thus, when a king makes an error, his officers can make up for it; when a father makes an error, his sons can make up for it, when an elder brother makes an error, his younger brothers can make up for it; when a husband makes an error, his wife can make up for it; and, when a man-of-service makes an error, his friends can make up for it.
故曰,君失之,臣得之,父失之,子得之,兄失之,弟得之,夫失之,婦得之,士失之,友得之,故無亡國、破家、悖父、亂子、放兄、棄弟、狂夫、淫婦、絕交敗友。」
In this way there will be no broken states, no destroyed familes, no unprincipled fathers, no unruly sons, no willful elder brothers, no cast-off younger brothers, no wild husbands, no over-reaching wives, and no bad friends who break the bonds of amity.” Yanzi Affirms the Necessity of Admonition
