When King Zhuang of Chu7 raised troops and attacked Song, Song announced its distress to other states, and Lord Jing of Jin8 was about to send troops to Song’s rescue, when Bo Zong9 counseled against it, saying, “Heaven is just now opening the way for Chu; it cannot yet be attacked.” Lord Jing accordingly sought a sturdy officer, and, having found one, a man of Huo settlement named Xie Yang, with the courtesy name Zihu [tiger], Lord Jing instructed him to go to Song and order them not to surrender.
