子胥諫曰：「諸侯不為匹夫興師。
Zi Xu admonished him about it, saying, “A lord of a state does not raise an army on a single man’s behalf; and, besides, serving a ruler is like serving a father.
且事君猶事父也，虧君之義，復父之讎，臣不為也。
To diminish the virtue of a ruler in order to avenge a wrong done to one’s father—I do not do such things.” The enterprise was then abandoned.
」於是止。
Later, circumstances were such that Zi Xu was able to carry out his revenge.
其後因事而後復其父讎也。
如子胥可謂不以公事趨私矣。
It can be said of people such as Zi Xu that they do not use public means to pursue private goals.
