」某子以為云云。
They would all gather together and stand in one place with earnest attentiveness; then the distinguished man [Kongzi] would step forward and say to one person, “What do you think should be done?” The person would say such and such.
又曰：「某子以為何若？
Then he would say to another person, “What do you think should be done?” Then that person would say such and such.
」某子曰云云。
When he had asked each person in turn, the distinguished man would then say, “Do you suppose we should follow the advice of such and such a person?” How could it have been necessary for a person of his wisdom to wait until he had heard the advice of all these people before he knew how to decide the case?
辯矣，然後君子「幾當從某子云云乎？
The distinguished man acted thus out of respect and deference.
」以君子之知，豈必待某子之云云然後知所以斷獄哉？
The statutes were such that they could be shared with others; they were not solely intended for the distinguished man alone.
君子之敬讓也。
文辭有可與人共之者，君子不獨有也。
