The source and origin of excess, abandonment, violence, and arrogance lies in drink, so the ancients were careful with regard to drinking rituals.
They ensured that the ears would hear refined sounds, that the eyes would see proper gestures, that feet would walk in proper measure, and that the heart would concern itself with the true Way; and in this way it was possible to imbibe spirits throughout the day with no occurrence of error.
All will extend favors, the near every few days and the far every few months, so that goodness may be enhanced.
