Exposition of the Brahma's Net Sutra [Preface]
夫宗本湛然，理不可易，是以妙穷于玄原之境、万行起于深信之宅。
At that time Rocana Buddha explained to the huge multitude, as little as the tip of a hair, the mind ground of Dharma Doors that are as numerous as the sands of 100,000 Ganges Rivers, the mind ground that was pronounced by past Buddhas, will be pronounced by future Buddhas, and is pronounced by present Buddhas.
是以天竺法师鸠摩罗什，诵持此品以为心首。
It was learned, will be learned, and is learned by Bodhisattvas of the past, future, and present.
我已百劫修行是心地。
[He said] "I, Rocana, trained on the mind ground for 100 kalpas.
号吾为卢舍那。

什少践于大方，齐异学于迦夷。
When Kumarajiva first entered the Great Method he harmonized the heterodoxy at Kapilavastu.

尔时，卢舍那佛为此大众，略开百千恒河沙不可说法门中心地，如毛头许。
At that time, Vairocana Buddha began speaking in general about the Mind-Ground for the benefit of the Great Assembly.
What he said represents but an infinitesimal part, the tip of a hair, of His innumerable teachings -- as numerous as the grains of sand in the river Ganges.
弘始三年淳风东扇，秦主姚兴，道契百王、玄心大法，
In the third year of Hong Shi (402) the genuine wind was fanned in the east, and the Qin ruler Yao Xing enlightened all the kings to their profound mind of the great Dharma.
时莲花台藏世界赫赫天光师子座上卢舍那佛放光光。
Then Rocana Buddha, seated on the radiant lion throne in the world of Lotus Flower Store, emitted beams of light and told the [1,000 Sakyamuni] Buddhas on the 1,000 lotus petals.
告千花上佛。

He concluded: "The Mind-Ground has been explained, is being explained and will be explained by all the Buddhas -- past, present, and future.
于草堂之中，三千学士与什参定大小二乘五十余部，唯《梵网经》最后诵出。
At Caotang Temple three thousand scholars worked together with Kumarajiva, translating more than fifty Hinayana and Mahayana texts, leaving the Brahma's Net Sutra to be recited last.
持我心地法门品。

而去复转为千百亿释迦及一切众生。
