And bright and clear as unveiled moon.
故人从此去。
Hearing with a new love you will go,
我欲渡河水，
I’ve come to say our parting will be soon.
河水深无梁。
Today we drink at home or on a boat;
愿为双黄鹂，
Tomorrow we may find our love has ceased.
高飞还故乡。
When I walk along the palace moat,
皑如山上雪，
I see relentless waters flowing east.
皎若云间月。
Sob and cry, alas, sob and cry;
闻君有两意，
The bride need not weep on her wedding day.
故来相决绝。
If the man is faithful to the nuptial tie,
今日斗酒会，
They’ll live together till their hair is grey.
明日沟水头。
The man is courting with a fishing-rod;
躧躧御沟上，
The wife responds like fish with nimble tail.
沟水东西流。
When the man is sacred as the god,
凄凄复凄凄，
Gold and silver will be of no avail!
