I tighten reins when I ascend the hills;
I loosen reins when I cross o'er the rills.
I sleep with my shadow late at night;
And think my thoughts of home in broad daylight.
When I halt my horse upon a peak,
I hear the grievous wind bemoan and shriek.
Wet dews are glistening in the fair moonlight;
The moon above is shining clear and bright.
As I toss and turn and cannot fall asleep,
I rise and sink in thoughts profound and deep.
