With coloured sails afloat upon the lake.
沅水桃花色，
The Yuanshui Stream is like a peach in prime;
湘流杜若香。
The Xiangjiang Stream is sweet for pollia's sake.
穴去茅山近，
The lake caves lead to Mount Maoshan close by;
江连巫峡长。
From Wuxia Valley its clear waters run.
带天澄迥碧，
Far, far away the lake melts with the azure sky
映日动浮光。
And glitters with quivering lights of the sun.
行舟遥远树，
My sailboat anchors, facing distant trees
度鸟息危檣。
While a small bird perches on the mast.
滔滔不可测，
The waves and billows make me ill at ease;
一苇岂能航？
How can a tiny sailboat brave the blast?
