始见西南楼，
When the new moon shone in the southwest sky,
纤纤如玉钩。
Like a fine jade hook it glistened high.
未映东北墀，
When it shed its last lights on the northeast stairs,
娟娟似蛾眉。
It looked like the brow of a maid who stares.
蛾眉蔽珠椀，
When I looked through the windows, it was grey;
玉钩隔琐窗。
When I looked from inside, it lost its ray.
