Zhao Jianzi100 once asked Zigong.
“I am unable to know the answer,” Zigong replied.
“You served him more than twenty years,” said Jianzi, displeased, “and, when you completed your studies, you left; yet, when I ask you about him, you say that you are unable to know.
Why?” “I might be compared to a thirsty man drinking from the rivers and oceans,” said Zigong.
“I know only when my thirst is quenched.
Kongzi is like the rivers and oceans.
How could I be capable of knowing the answer?” “Zigong speaks skillfully indeed!” observed Zhao Jianzi.
