蒼顏華發，
Farewell at the Gate of Suzhou
故山歸計何時決？
A pale face with hair grey,
舊交新貴音書絕。
When can I go home without care?
唯有佳人，
No word's received from my friends old or new,
猶作殷勤別。
Only the songstress fair
離亭欲去歌聲咽，
Comes to sing for me a song of adieu.
瀟瀟細雨涼吹頰。
On leaving the pavilion, with sobs she sings;
淚珠不用羅巾裹。
The chilly breeze a drizzling rain to my cheeks brings.
彈在羅衫，
Don't use your handkerchief to wipe your tears away!

Let them fall on your silken sleeves!
